Step 2: Update your driver's license or state ID
- Colorado driver's licenses, identification cards, and identification documents show one of three sex designations: female, male, or X. To change yours, you (or your parent, guardian, or legal representative) give the Department of Revenue a completed Change of Sex Designation form (DR 2083), or a new Colorado birth certificate that already shows the updated sex designation.

- Colorado law does not require you to have any surgery, treatment, clinical care, or behavioral health care to change this sex designation. By law, the Department may amend your sex designation only once at your request; any further change needs a certified copy of a court order. If you are under 18, the DR 2083 form must also be signed by a professional medical or mental health care provider licensed in Colorado.
